Turmeric Milk
Also know as Turmeric Latte, or Golden Milk, this drink is wonderful for its healing properties.
Curcumin, the key compound in turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Drinking it warm, mixed with the natural fat content of the milk, maximises absorption. It is best enjoyed in small quantities as those with digestive disturbances may find high levels of fat hard to digest. Almond or Coconut Milk (1 cup) 1/4 cup of water 1/2 tsp ground turmeric 3 cardamon pods, cracked 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger or 1/4 tsp ginger powder 1 whole cinnamon stick, or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 1 tsp maple syrup, raw honey, coconut sugar, or sweetner of choice. 1 tsp extra virgin coconut oil (optional) |
Add all ingredients (apart from the sweetner), into a small pot.
Simmer gently on a low heat for 10 minutes - do not boil.
Stir through sweetner and add more hot water if desired
Strain and serve.
Turmeric milk makes for a warm, nourishing drink and is a wonderful addition year round, especially so in the cold dark season.
It is also a perfect addition to a night-time routine to prepare yourself for sleep.
